Nigel Sloam
Senior Partner
Nigel read Mathematics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford University. He was trained initially with a major actuarial consultancy, then worked as Actuary and Investment Manager of a large (half British owned) Israeli Insurance Company in Tel Aviv. His subsequent experience included working as an actuary for subsidiaries of a major merchant banking group and as Technical Director of a leading Investment, Pensions and Insurance Consultancy and in 1979 founded our firm.
He is a Chartered Mathematician and is a Scheme Actuary. He is an Associate of the American Society of Actuaries and one of very few actuaries who are members of The International Tax Planning Association.
Nigel is a leading expert on the utilisation of member directed pension schemes for entrepreneurs, executives, professionals, artists and sportsmen and was the first Chairman of the Association of Consulting Actuaries Committee on SSAS’s and SIPPS. He has lectured widely at actuarial, accountancy and legal conferences and seminars.
He is involved in every area of the firm’s work: actuarial, investment, trusteeship, product development, pension and divorce consultancy for both our British and overseas clients. -

Amit Shah
Partner
Amit graduated from City University with a degree in Actuarial Science and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1995.
He joined Nigel Sloam & Co in 1994, having previously worked for Sedgwick Consulting (now part of Mercer). He was made a Partner in 1997.
Amit has held a Scheme Actuary Certificate since 1997 and is highly experienced in providing actuarial and consultancy advice covering all aspects of corporate and individual pension arrangements. His particular specialty is to provide cost effective and practical solutions to problems experienced by small to medium sized employers in managing pension liabilities for their staff. He also advises professionals and directors of owner managed business in structuring their own pension planning.
Amit is a senior director of NSS Independent Trustees Ltd, and coordinates our independent trustee services to a number of defined benefit pension plans. This ensures he fully understands the trustees’ perspective! -

Salvatore Avanzato
Partner
Salvatore has worked in the Financial Services Sector since leaving education. Before joining Nigel Sloam & Co, almost 15 years ago, he worked for one of the UK’s largest Insurance Companies for a similar length of time. He holds a Business Studies Diploma and a Certificate in Financial Planning.
He became a Partner almost five years ago and provides strategic investment advice and works closely with the rest of his colleagues to run the investment team and is also a member of our investment committee. He also advises clients on a wide range of pension schemes. -

Guy Young
Partner
Guy graduated from Manchester University with a Mathematics degree and holds a Certificate in Financial Planning. He joined Nigel Sloam & Co in 1996 and was made partner in 2005. He has developed a wide range of experience in all pension matters including advice relating to SSASs, SIPPs and overseas pension arrangements for high net worth individuals.
He provides strategic investment advice and assists in choosing specific assets as part of an overall portfolio. He is also responsible for our investment research team and a leading member of the investment committee. -

Elizabeth Sloam
Senior Associate & Office Manager
Elizabeth Sloam was educated in London and Switzerland and has been involved in the practice since inception and knows many of the firm’s clients very well. She is a mine of information regarding the history of the firm and of client matters and her personal memory data base is accessed regularly by her colleagues.
She is responsible for the overall internal management of the firm and heads the accounts department. She provides strategic advice to all the Partners! -

Patrick Day
Associate
Patrick read Mathematics at University College, London and holds the Certificate in Financial Planning.
Patrick joined Nigel Sloam & Co in 2001 and provides consultancy advice to SIPPs and SSASs, specialising in advice to company directors on pension fund investments, retirement planning and advising on offshore pension schemes for non-UK residents. Patrick is also a member of our investment committee. -

Sonia Day
Associate
Sonia read Mathematics at the University of Warwick and holds the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Diploma in Financial Planning, including the Advanced Level G60 pensions qualification.
Sonia joined Nigel Sloam & Co in August 1999 and since that time has worked very closely with Nigel Sloam. She is a consultant and advises clients on a wide range of pension matters. She specialises in general pensions consultancy, advising on loans (to sponsoring employers and to arm’s length parties), property transactions and strategic advice on benefit drawing.
Sonia co-ordinates our New Business department as well as managing our in-house documentation department. -

Craig Avis
Manager
Craig joined Nigel Sloam & Co in July 2006 after working for Norwich Union for over 10 years. He holds the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Diploma in Financial Planning.
He is the Administration Manager for our pensions department and has over 13 years experience in working in this field as well as dealings with other types of pension contracts. Craig is also increasingly involved with practical consultancy to clients. -

Arun Ramaswamy
Manager
Arun read Law at Newcastle University and holds a number of professional qualifications including the Chartered Insurance Institutes' Advanced Level G60 pensions qualification. He is an Associate of the Institute of Financial Planning and a member of the Personal Finance Society by Diploma. He has specialised in the area of Self-Invested Pensions since November 2000.
He joined Nigel Sloam & Co in June 2006 and is involved in a number of different aspects of the firm's business including some consultancy work, Self-Invested Personal Pensions, Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes and technical research. -

Aaron Segal
Manager
Aaron Graduated in 1997 from City University with an Actuarial Science degree. He is a nearly qualified Actuary and a Member of the Institute of Actuaries. He joined Nigel Sloam & Co in 2007 and has more than 12 years experience in the pensions industry.
He is involved in a broad range of actuarial work, for trustees / employers / members / individuals, actuarial valuations, pension loss on redundancy, pensions on divorce, life interests and reversions. He is also responsible for supervising and managing actuarial students of the firm.
